Foreign Trade according to Technological Content. Q1/2020
Catalonia exported high-technology industrial products valued at 2,219.9 million euros during the first quarter of 2020, a figure representing a year-over-year increase of 17.4%. Foreign sales of low technology level products also increased by 4.1% year over year. In contrast, exports of medium-high level (−11.5%) and medium-low level products fell (−7.4%). Overall, exports of industrial products achieved a figure of 16,527.5 million euros, a figure which represents a year-over-year decrease of 3.7%.
In the same quarter, Catalonia imported industrial products worth 19,433.5 million euros in the first quarter, a figure indicating a year-over-year decrease of 8.6%. On the other hand, there was a decrease in all levels of technology purchased from abroad. A fact worth highlighting is the decrease in purchases with a high technological content (−5.9%), something that has not occurred in the past 4 years. Purchases of medium-high-level technology decreased by 8.3%, medium-level purchases decreased by 17.7% and low-level purchases decreased by 4.4%.
