The total expenditure by tourists resident abroad whose main destination is Catalonia was 39 million euros to June 2020, a figure that means a decrease of 98.5% compared with the same period last year.

By country of habitual residence, France and Germany stand out with an expenditure of 16 and 4 million euros, respectively, which represent a year-over-year decrease of 92.7% and 97.8%.

The average daily expenditure per person is 104 euros, a figure that indicates a year-over-year decrease of 52.0%. The main items of expenditure are accommodation, meals and activities, each of which accounted for 9 million euros.

The end of the state of alarm on 21 June has not meant the removal of access controls in Spain, pursuant to Order INT/551/2020, of 21 June, in force until 30 June, whereby the criteria for the implementation of a temporary restriction on non-essential travel from non-EU countries to the European Union and Schengen member countries for reasons of public order and public health due to the health crisis caused by COVID-19 are extended. For this reason, the presence of visitors entering by road has only been considered from 21 June; and by ports and airports only visitors arriving from 21 June from countries in the Schengen Area have been taken into account, while international flows by rail were nil during June. Thus, for Catalonia the information is complete with regard to travel by visitors ending their stay from 21 June, the point at which the fieldwork can commence, and it is considered that the data are of sufficient quality to be disseminated, since it has been possible to use the customary mechanisms to make up for a certain lack of response in some strata. For this reason, the presence of visitors entering by road has only been considered from 21 June; and by ports and airports only visitors arriving from 21 June from countries in the Schengen Area have been taken into account, while international flows by rail were nil during June.
