Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 07/2020. Provisional data
The number of Social Security affiliations in Catalonia up to 31 July 2020 increased by 0.7% compared to the figure for June, and currently stands at 3,346,957, according to provisional data.
By economic sector, in comparison with June, affiliations increased in all sectors: agriculture (1.3%, 790 affiliations), construction (0.9%, 1,785 affiliations), services (0.7%, 18,380 affiliations) and industry (0.2%, 1,061 affiliations).
By economic division, the largest increases in absolute figures compared to June were in health activities (4.8%, 9,202 affiliations), food and beverage services (4.2%, 8,250 affiliations), retail trade (1.9%, 6,035 affiliations), and accommodation services (12.9%, 5,550 affiliations). The largest decreases, also in absolute figures, were recorded in Education (−7.3%, 10,852 affiliations) the Public Administration, Defence and Mandatory Social Security (−3.1%, 6,565 affiliations) and sports, recreation and entertainment activities (−4.5%, 1,933 affiliations).
By type of employment relationship, the number of social security contributors in paid employment rose by 0.7% and those of the self-employed rose by 0.3% compared to June. In terms of affiliations of those in paid employment those on temporary contracts increased (by 3.4%) but there was a slight fall in those on permanent contracts (−0.1%). With regard to the workday, those social security contributors on full-time contracts and those on permanent discontinuous contracts rose by 1.3% and 0.5% respectively, while those on part-time contracts fell by 0.8%.
The number of contributors to Social Security in Catalonia increased by 0.8% to July 2020 in comparison with June and currently stands at 3,209,714.
By counties, the largest increases in percentage terms of social security contributors are in L'Aran (12.0%), El Pallars Sobirà (8.9%) and L'Alta Ribagorça (8.2%). In contrast, L'Alt Penedès (−0.5%) and El Bages (−0.3%) are the counties with the largest decreases.
By sex, the number of male contributors increased by 1.0% while female contributors decreased by 0.5%. By nationality, the number of foreign contributors increased by 2.5% while the number of contributors with Spanish citizenship decreased by 0.5%.
As a consequence of the health emergency caused by COVID-19, Idescat publishes the provisional monthly results of Social Security contributors and affiliations based on contributors’ registered place of residence as of the last day of each month. The statistics on Contributors and Affiliations is referenced to the last day of March, June, September and December, but for the duration of this exceptional situation, data will also be published on the last day of each month for which they are available. The definitive results will be published in accordance with Idescat's publication calendar.
