Statistics on Hotel Activity. 07/2020

The number of overnight stays in hotel establishments in Catalonia decreased by 77.9% year-over-year in July 2020, according to the Hotel Occupancy Survey. Domestic tourism overnight stays decreased by 48.0%: of these, Catalan travellers decreased by 29.3% and travellers from the rest of Spain decreased by 69.4% year-over-year. Foreign tourism overnight stays decreased by 87.7% year-over-year.

By country of origin, tourists from France, Germany and the Netherlands presented the highest figure in overnight stays in absolute terms (281.4, 74.5 and 66.8 thousand, respectively), with year-over-year negative variations: 65.3%, 84.7 and 78.9, respectively.

By tourism brands, Costa Brava and Costa Daurada were the locations that registered the highest number of overnight stays in absolute terms (692.2 and 383.9 thousand, respectively) and registered negative year-over-year variations 66.5% and 78.9%, respectively.

On the other hand, the number of travellers registered in hotel establishments fell by 69.5% year-over-year, with an decrease in domestic tourism and foreign tourism by 40.8% and 84.2%, respectively.

In accordance with the Royal Decree 555/2020, of 5 June, the mobility of the population throughout the territory is allowed from 21 June. In July, the number of establishments opened increased compared to June.

The monthly data are still provisional since January 1999 to December 2010. The short-term data are definitive from January 2011 until last year over period published.
