Indicators of Service Sector Activity. Indexes of Production and Turnover. Q2/2020
The Production Index in the Service Sector (IPROSS) (base 2015=100) decreased by 35.3% on year-over-year data in Catalonia in the second quarter of 2020. Furthermore, the Turnover Index (IASSVN) also showed a decrease of 31.1% with respect to one year ago, since trade decreased by 26.0% and the other services (this is to say, all except for trade) decreased by 39.4%. Within the other services, all sectors decreased, especially the accommodation sector, with a decrease of 79.7%.
During the second quarter of 2020, specifically up to 21 June, the state of alarm remained in place that was established by Royal Decree 463/2020, of 14 March, for the management of the health crisis caused by COVID-19. In April, with the restriction of people's freedom of movement and the closure to the public of retail premises and establishments with certain exceptions (accommodation and restaurant activities). In May, with the plan for the resumption of normal activity transition, retail premises and establishments that were not permitted to conduct their activity during the state of alarm began to reopen and adapt their capacities. Hotels and tourist establishments, as well as the restaurant trade, were also permitted to open to the public subject to certain restrictions. In June, progress continued through the several de-escalation phases until the lifting of the state of alarm.
