Contributors and Affiliations to Social Security based on Contributors' Registered Place of Residence. 04/2022. Provisional data
The number of Social Security contributors in Catalonia in April 2022 increased by 5.1% compared with the previous year and stood at 3,408,333 people, according to provisional data. The year-over-year increase in contributors occurred in all counties and Aran, led by La Selva (12.0%). With respect to the 3 most populated counties of Catalonia, they registered year-over-year increases lower than the Catalan average: El Barcelonès (4.7%), El Baix Llobregat (3.5%) and El Vallès Occidental (3.1%).
In relation to March 2022, the number of contributors increased by 1.5% in Catalonia as a whole and also in 37 counties, led by La Selva (5.9%), El Tarragonès (5.5%), El Baix Empordà and L'Alt Empordà (5.1% in both cases). By contrast, 4 counties and Aran registered falls: Aran (−14.5%), L'Alta Ribagorça (−5.5%), El Pallars Sobirà (−2.9%), La Cerdanya (−1.2%) and El Ripollès (−0.4%).
By sex and in relation to a year ago, the number of female Social Security contributors increased more than men (5.7% and 4.6%, respectively) in Catalonia as a whole. By counties, the number of male and female contributors increased in all counties.
The number of contributors increased in all age groups in Catalonia as a whole. This increase took place in all counties, in all age groups, except for the group aged 30 to 44, which registered a decrease in 20 counties. The number of contributors under the age of 30 (representing 16.5% of the total number of contributors) increased the most, by 13.2% in Catalonia as a whole, and it did so in all counties.
By nationality, the year-over-year increase in the number of foreign contributors (13.2%) was higher than those with Spanish nationality (3.7%) in Catalonia as a whole and in all counties and Aran.
The service sector, which accounts for 78.8% of affiliations, increased the most in April 2022 in relation to the previous year (6.3% for Catalonia as a whole) and did so in all counties. Affiliations in industry increased by 2.6% in Catalonia as a whole and also increased in all counties, except El Garraf. The variation in the construction sector was also positive (3.2%) while agriculture is the only sector where the number of Social Security affiliations decreased (−3.1%) in Catalonia as a whole and also in 31 counties.
By type of working day, 21.1% of employee affiliations in April 2022 were part-time. The highest proportion of part-time affiliations was registered in La Cerdanya (25.1%).
By type of contract, 20.5% of the employee Social Security affiliations in Catalonia were temporary, the lowest proportion since the start of the series (March 2012). The county with the lowest proportion of temporary contracts is El Baix Empordà (16.3%) and the highest is L'Alta Ribagorça (30.1%).
